Meg's Story

" My career as a full-time Artist began when I moved to Hornsea in East Yorkshire where I worked as a successful painter for many years.

After the collapse of the famous Hornsea Pottery I felt it was important that pottery should still be made in the town so I embarked on a ceramics course and in 2015 launched Nutmeg Pottery.

I have developed and grown my practice over the years and at this point in time my focus is my 'Ernestine'.  The name comes from Lady Ernestine Strickland-Constable who once owned Wassand Hall and Hornsea Mere in Hornsea. The Ernestine pieces are inspired by her love of nature and my love of vintage ceramics and glass. Each piece is handbuilt with earthenware clay, then painted with pastel slips before being painted with botanical illustrations and finally finished with 24 carat gold lustre.

My aim is to create beautifully imperfect pieces with individual character that embrace their handmade qualities".
